| Some
people are spreading "misinformation" about FOBA.
They are claiming that FOBA is against all progress and development.
This is completely incorrect. To say
that no development should take place in Divison 12 is akin to
telling the tide to stop rolling in (see King
Canute). Some development has improved Division 12, some hasn't.
FOBA believes that development should occur but such development
should:
- retain & enhance Division 12's character,
not destroy it as the majority of residents' believe Australand's
Essence of Greed will do,
- not change Division 12 into another Surfers
Paradise as stated in the Australand development proposal and
accepted by councillors,
- include input from all of the community of
Division 12, not only the local councillor, the Chamber of
Commerce and the traders. The Local Government Act states that
a councillor’s role is to make Council policy and meet the overall
public interest, (Sect. 229.1 of the Act). This has
not been done with many developments in Division 12.
We believe all interested residents, ratepayers, visitors and
traders should have input into the future of Division 12. With
as many people
as possible working together, Division 12 can be updated to the
benefit of all except perhaps those developers who put profits
before community.
