Dear Councillor,

We are writing to ask you to vote against the Australand development, situated on the corner of The Esplanade and the Gold Coast Highway on the site of the Burleigh Heads Hotel.  A development application is currently before Council.

We believe this development will destroy Burleigh's village character. Sue Lipperman said it well in her article in the Weekend Bulletin on Saturday, August 16. Almost without exception, all of our friends and visitors don't want the development. We don't know anyone who does.

Our grandchildren and their children will never know the charm of Burleigh Heads if it goes ahead. Cr Drake hasn't had any public meetings on this important issue therefore he cannot speak on our behalf.

A vote against the Australand development will be a vote for the greater good of the community of Burleigh Heads and not out of fear of litigation against Council. It is our understanding that Council Officers' recommendations are generally accepted by Councillors. However, it is you Councillors who set the policies and procedures for Council Officers to implement.

Please don't destroy our heritage or our future at Burleigh. Please vote against the Australand development.

Yours sincerely,
